The Orangutans can be found in oil palm plantation on Cempaga Hulu District precisely located in the forest area of Tumbang Koling . The forest area of Tumbang Koling Tumbang is home to 11 rare and endangered species of mammals, including Sun Bear (Helarctos Malayus), gibbons (Hylobates muelleri), slow loris (Nycticebus menagensis) and tarsier (Tarsier bancanus ssp. Borneanus).
The biggest threat being experienced by the orangutan is their habitat are getting smaller due to the rain forests being used as a place of residence palm oil plantations, mining and trees felled for timber. Orangutans have lost 80% of the habitat in less than 20 years. Not infrequently they are injured and even killed by farmers and landowners because they are considered as pests. If a female orangutan was found with her son, the mother would be killed and his son then sold in the illegal pet trade.
